The Southeast Europe ESG in Employment 2023 – Chapter IV (safe work environment)

We are pleased to present the final chapter of our ESG in Employment series, focusing on one of the most fundamental aspects of a compliant workplace: a safe work environment. This publication marks the culmination of a year-long initiative by our Employment & Immigration Practice Group, exploring key elements of the ESG “social” pillar across Southeast Europe.

Following our earlier insights on work flexibility, workplace discrimination, and data privacy, this chapter addresses the evolving legal and practical dimensions of workplace safety. Today’s employers must navigate an increasingly complex framework of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and emerging expectations—ranging from physical safety and training obligations to mental health, workplace culture, and technological impacts.

Creating a safe work environment is not only a legal requirement, but a strategic priority. Organisations that proactively invest in employee well-being and robust safety frameworks foster resilience, trust, and long-term success.

This final insight reflects our continued commitment to supporting businesses across Southeast Europe with clear, practical guidance.
