The Southeast Europe ESG in Employment 2022/2023 – Chapter II (Workplace Discrimination)

Following the launch of our ESG in Employment series, our Employment & Immigration Practice Group continues to explore key aspects of the “social” pillar across Southeast Europe. After addressing work flexibility and work-life balance, this second insight focuses on a critical and enduring issue: workplace discrimination.

Despite broadly aligned regulatory frameworks across the region, discrimination in the workplace remains a significant challenge. It can take many forms — from unequal pay and limited career opportunities to unfair treatment based on protected characteristics — and carries serious legal, organisational, and reputational consequences.

Through this insight, we provide a clear overview of the legal landscape and practical considerations surrounding workplace discrimination, helping employers foster inclusive, compliant, and resilient working environments.
