A New Era in Collective Labour Law in Greece: The Social Agreement Explained

Our member firm KG Law Firm Employment, Pensions & Benefits Team is closely monitoring recent developments in Greece following the enactment of the Social Agreement through Law 5278/2026, which introduces significant changes to the collective labour framework as part of the 2026–2030 Action Plan for the Promotion of Collective Bargaining.

Key reforms include:

• Reduction of the extension threshold for sectoral and occupational collective labour agreements (CLAs) to 40%

• Full post-expiry effect of CLAs until replaced

• Faster mediation and arbitration through the OMED reform

• Simplified rules for trade union and employers’ registries

These measures signal a clear shift toward reinforcing collective bargaining and promoting social dialogue in Greece.
