The Drina River has the greatest hydro power plant potential of all the rivers flowing through Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is already dotted with power plants in its middle and lower streams. This project is currently in its preliminary design phase (phase 1). The environmental permit is obtained and the exploratory works are pending approval for some time now. The realization of the project is prolonged due to shortages in financing and backlash from the NGO sector due to potential environmental harm. The estimated cost is EUR 123 million.
