“Kanal Istanbul” is one of Turkey’s mega infrastructure projects.
This project aims to create a waterway between the Marmara Sea and the Black Sea as an alternative route to the Bosphorus. The total length of this waterway is expected to be approximately 43 km with six new bridges spanning its length. The total investment amount for the project is expected to be approximately TRY 75 billion (approximately EUR 2.94 billion).
The tender for Kanal Istanbul’s construction took place on 19 December 2022 and the consortium of Dillingham Construction, Altaş Yapı (Altaş Yapı Uluslararası Mühendislik Müşavirlik A.Ş.) and Apco Teknik (Apco Teknik Müşavirlik ve Taahhüt. A.Ş.) won the tender. The project is currently ongoing. However, due to public objection, there is no available information on the commencement date.
